Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.

Huge thanks to my dear friend Raf @ The Royal Polarbear Reads for hosting this awesome blog tour. Also PRH International for providing physical copies. This will not affect nor influence my review.

*mind blown*

That’s it! In two words, that’s how I would describe my full experience while reading Warcross. It’s such an amazing book that I can’t even explain how much I enjoyed every page of it. I can now understand why so many people/readers tell that Marie Lu is a genius because SHE IS LITERALLY A GENIUS!!!! Science fiction or any futuristic settings aren’t my cup of tea. I don’t go for books under this genre but Warcross proved me wrong. (I hate it when this happens!) I’ve never read any book by Marie Lu, it’s because I kept on hearing mixed reviews about them. There’s always a first time for everything and reading Warcross was worth everything.

I have to say thank you again to Raf for choosing me to be a part of this blog tour. I actually have no idea what the book was about. I kept on seeing it around Booktube and that’s why it drew me to sign up for this tour.

I don’t want to give out too much information about this book. I went out on a whim and read it with knowing what it’s about. Emika Chen is not your typical female main character. She’s tattooed, has rainbow colored hair, smart and can actually kick someone’s butt. Plus she’s an amazing “hacker”, I love her! Let’s talk about Hideo Tanaka, I could list 7 things I’d love to hate about him. The way he talks to Emika made me giggle and fall in love with his character more. He’s Japanese and can talk British to you, he’s the man behind Warcross. The epitome of every “prince charming” in real life, made up of everything nice but full of lies. But I still love him nonetheless.

I liked the whole plot of the story, I’m not a video game player but I loved how vivid and imaginary pleasing this book was. There’s something about Warcross that reminded me of “Wreck It Ralph”, wherein characters from a specific game appeared on a different game because of the “glitch”. I don’t know if you get my point here. (lol) I just want to let that thought out of me!

I’ve predicted a few things that had happened in this book but that didn’t matter because of how the story ended. For me, it was everything I was looking for in a book from a genre I don’t normally reach for. This book is such a page turner that you immediately get sucked into the story and don’t notice everything that’s happening around you. It’s action packed and full of surprises. I’m definitely going to recommend this to everyone!
