What made you start blogging in the first place?
Thank you @jessica_tay27 (Twitter) for the question!
At first, I was actually dedicated to my bookstagram account right before it was a hit. I loved taking photos of my books and sharing my recent reads on my account. But I thought it was not enough, I wanted to share more. I needed a platform where I can gush over a book or post a rant about something that doesn’t have any word count limit.
To answer the question, “Why I started blogging in the first place?”. It was never planned. I never saw myself blogging about anything especially books and my experiences. I had no idea what I was doing, I created a website and posted my very first TBR pile or was it a book haul? Maybe one of the main reason I started to blog is my love for writing. I admitted to myself that I’m not the best but I was willing to give it a try.
I’ve always fancied the idea of talking to people from across the globe. Connecting with strangers who share the same interests as mine made me happy. Can someone take me back in time so I can relieve the moments during my first months of blogging? It never came to me that I would meet a lot of kind people in the blogging community. And meeting them IRL was one of the most unforgettable moments in my life!
Blogging became my voice when no one seemed to care about what I have to say. It became my channel to share what I’ve learned and how I view things. I wanted to share and inspire people with what I do. I felt that I gained a lot of my self-confidence when I started blogging. I discovered more about myself that I didn’t know about.
Though we cannot escape the eyes of critics. We just have to focus on those people that appreciate what we do and believe in what we can offer. Inspire those people who inspire you to do more and be the better version of yourself.
So I’ll drop a few pointers/ advice if you want to start your own blog soon.
1. Be you.
It’s SO cliche, I know! Always be yourself, don’t let yourself get lost or get overwhelmed with everything. There will always be someone who is greater than you. What makes us different from one another is our uniqueness and our passion.
2. Create content that interests you and your audience.
Communication is key! That’s why you should create content that is relevant and sparks the interest of your audience. Based on my experience, it’s kind of pressuring to come up with topics that can be a hit. You can try doing new things to spice up your contents and put your own twists on it.
3. Be creative, take inspiration around you.
Appreciate all the things around you, even the small things. Go to your favorite place and relax. Try to explore those places you’ve never been to. No matter what your content might be, do it with love and passion. Of course, you have to put an effort into the things you do. Nothing comes easy.
4. Don’t be afraid to meet new people
When you start blogging you’ll meet different kinds of people. Never isolate yourself from those people. It’s great to make friends because you’ll learn from them. I am grateful to all my friends that I gained because of blogging. They are the most amazing humans ever.
5. Demotivation? Take a break.
Don’t force yourself to post or do things when you know to yourself that you’re not feeling “you”. I know that in the process you will lose yourself but always remember to bounce back no matter what. Take a break no matter how long, you deserve every minute of it.
Blogging can be a huge commitment for some, especially when you’re working a 9-5 job. That’s my case though, I’m trying to find my mojo again. It’s something I wouldn’t get tired of doing(blogging). It’s something that keeps me sane and escape this crazy reality.
If you’re planning to blog, DO IT! Your possibilities are endless.
